LifeWest | Day 4: Chosen To Shine!

Embarking on a trip with Amiina Ministries to Uganda has been an incredible experience, filled with heartwarming moments and inspiring encounters. Today, as the second day of the youth conference unfolded, the atmosphere was brimming with excitement and anticipation. The theme, "chosen to shine," resonated throughout the day, empowering both the Ugandan students and the visiting team. The genuine enthusiasm, unwavering desire to learn, and the beautiful voices of the participants made my day truly remarkable.

The day began with soul-stirring sermons and uplifting worship songs, setting the stage for an enriching experience. Witnessing the Ugandan students' patience and eagerness to absorb new knowledge left a lasting impression. Their commitment to personal growth and their ability to connect with others through worship was truly inspiring. The conference was a testament to the power of faith and community.

As the day progressed, the attendees were divided into groups according to age, and I had the privilege of accompanying the younger children. Together, we delved into a series of engaging lessons, crafts, and games designed to foster learning and create an atmosphere of joy. The highlight of this session was the presentation of three Bible story skits featuring Moses, David, and Joshua. The children's infectious laughter and their adoration of our Muzungu "white" performances brought immeasurable joy to us.

Following the activities, Mama Marcy delivered a heartfelt message to the entire group reinforcing the lessons learned throughout the week. The day concluded with a profound prayer led by the Ugandans, uniting the participants and invoking a sense of unity with a blessing over our team.

Finally, the evening brought a vibrant talent show, showcasing the incredible talents of the students. With energetic dancers and singers, the stage was alive. Amidst the electrifying performances, I found myself unexpectedly called upon the stage. Though my dancing skills may have left much to be desired, the atmosphere of acceptance and joy made it a truly memorable experience me, and an entertaining one for everyone else.

However, my favorite part of the day came during the downtime when I had the opportunity to engage in a heartfelt conversation with one of our sponsor twins, Edrine. Over the course of 45 minutes, we discussed a myriad of topics, connecting on a deeper level and gaining a profound understanding of the transformative impact our support has had on their lives. It was a powerful reminder of the significance of our presence and the tangible difference we can make when we invest time and care into the lives of others. I’m so glad we visited, and I will forever be impacted by their spirit and appreciation.

As the day of the Amiina youth conference came to a close, it left an indelible mark on our hearts. The Ugandan students' unwavering spirit, the creative energy of the staff, and the resounding voices united in worship illuminated the beauty of this shared experience. From the engaging activities and inspiring messages to the joyful talent showcase, and the intimate connections made, the day was a testament to the transformative power of faith, love, and genuine human connection. This trip to Uganda with Amiina continues to be a journey of personal growth, enriching experiences, and a reaffirmation of the profound impact we can have on each other's lives.
